Strength and Mobility

Mat-based strength and control for beginners. Formerly our Pilates class.

Who is this class for?

Strength and Mobility (formerly our Pilates class) is for people who want to build core strength and control. It is designed for beginners who have not done this type of exercise before, and for people with an injury history who need a bit more support.

What happens in the class

The class is mostly mat work, using fitballs, rings, weights and bands. If you can't do an exercise, that is not a problem. The physiotherapist or exercise physiologist running the class will give you another option that suits you.

When you are ready for more of a challenge, you can move up to Advanced Strength and Mobility.

Common questions

Is this the same as Pilates?

It grew out of our Pilates class and uses many of the same ideas, like core strength and control. We renamed it because it now also includes weights and bands.

I have a back injury. Can I join?

Often, yes. Tell us about it at your class assessment. We will check what is safe for you and show you how to adjust the exercises.

When should I move to the advanced class?

When the exercises feel easy and your clinician agrees you are ready. They will tell you.
