Rehabilitation
A step-by-step exercise plan to get you moving again after an injury, an operation or time off your feet.
Rehabilitation, one person at a time
Rehabilitation helps your body recover its normal function after an injury, an operation or a significant illness. We treat one person at a time, so your physiotherapist can give you their full attention, and we set goals with you that matter in your everyday life.
We use the ConnectTherapy approach, which means retraining how you move as a whole, so your body doesn't get stuck in unhelpful habits after an injury.
People often come to us for rehabilitation after:
- a hip or knee replacement
- an ACL or other ligament tear
- other operations on bones, joints or muscles
- cancer treatment, alongside your medical team
- a stroke, alongside your medical team

The usual stages of recovery
- Recovery. Letting the body settle after surgery or trauma so you are ready to start.
- Strength and control. Rebuilding strength and confidence in movement.
- Range and agility. Getting back your normal range of movement, and for sport, running, turning and landing.
- Back to activity. Returning to work, sport or the things you love.
- Staying well. Keeping your body working well and lowering the chance of another injury.
Your plan is adjusted as you go. For example, after an ACL repair you start with small, simple exercises and build up to squats and lunges once you are off crutches.
If you have had surgery or have a medical condition, we follow your surgeon's or doctor's protocol and keep them updated. Bring any discharge notes or exercise sheets to your first visit.
Once you are steady on your feet, exercise physiology and our small exercise classes are a supervised way to keep building strength.
Common questions
How soon after surgery can I start?
That depends on your operation and your surgeon's instructions. Many people start within days or weeks. Call us and we will check what suits you.
Can I use a Medicare care plan?
If you have a chronic condition and your GP gives you a care plan, Medicare helps pay for up to five allied health visits a year. See Medicare care plans.
Do you do home visits?
No. All appointments are at our clinic on Eyre Street, which has an accessible parking bay right outside.
