Accessibility
How we make our clinic on Eyre Street and this website easy to use for everyone, whatever your age or ability.
Getting to and around the clinic
We want every patient to get from the car to the treatment room without a struggle. Here is what to expect at Suite 2, 69 Eyre Street, North Ward.
Parking
- Accessible parking bay right outside the clinic. It has a marked shared zone beside it, so there is room to get a wheelchair or walker in and out of the car.
- Kerb ramp to the footpath. The ramp is next to the accessible bay and has a tactile marker, so you don’t need to step up a kerb.
- Plenty of free parking. There are free parking spaces on both sides of Eyre Street, close to our front door.
Getting inside
- The clinic is at ground level, along a flat footpath from the accessible bay and the ramp.
- If you need a hand from the car or at the door, call us when you arrive on 07 4724 0768 and one of the team will come out.
During your visit
- You are welcome to bring a carer, family member or support person into your appointment.
- Assistance animals are welcome.
- Tell us when you book if you use a wheelchair, walker or other aid, have trouble with hearing, sight or getting on and off a treatment table, or need more time. We will plan your appointment around it.
This website
We built this website to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. That is the standard the Australian Government asks its own websites to meet, and the benchmark the Australian Human Rights Commission points to under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992.
How the site meets the standard
- Easy to read. Body text is at least 17 pixels and lines are kept short. We write in plain English and explain medical words.
- Strong colour contrast. All text meets the WCAG contrast ratio of at least 4.5 to 1. Most of our text is dark navy on white, at about 11 to 1. We never use colour alone to show meaning.
- Zoom and small screens. You can zoom to 200% and the site still works. Pages reflow to fit a phone screen 320 pixels wide without scrolling sideways.
- Large buttons and links. Buttons and menu links are at least 44 pixels tall, so they are easy to tap.
- Keyboard friendly. A “Skip to content” link is the first thing on every page, and a thick outline shows which link or button you are on.
- Screen reader friendly. Each page has one main heading and headings in order, marked page regions (header, menu, main content, footer), descriptive link text and text descriptions on photos. Text is real text, never a picture of text.
- Nothing moves on its own. There are no auto-playing videos or sliding carousels. If your device is set to reduce motion, the site turns animations off.
- No time limits. Nothing on the site times out while you are reading or filling in a form.
- Another way to reach us. Our phone number and email address are on every page, so you never have to use a form or online booking.
How we check it
We test pages with a keyboard only, with a screen reader, at 200% zoom and on small phone screens, and we check colour contrast and page structure with automated tools. We check again whenever we change the site.
Known limitations
- Online booking is run by another company (PracSuite), and we can’t control how accessible it is. If you have any trouble, call us on 07 4724 0768 and we will book for you.
- Google reviews shown on the site come from Google.
- Older blog articles are being moved to the new design. If you find one that is hard to read, please let us know.
- PDF documents, such as the GP referral pad, may not work well with every screen reader. Ask us for the information in another format.
Ask us for help or tell us about a barrier
If something on this website or at the clinic makes it hard for you, we want to know so we can fix it. You can also ask for any information in another format.
